From March 19 to 31, audiences are free to watch 20 French-speaking documentaries in the two Campuses of Sun Yat-sen University.

"The films have been shown on the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival at the Sapphire Art Space last year. They are very good films. But it is a pity that only few people have the opportunities to appreciate them. This time we enter the universities during the La Francophonie Festival and hope more people could enjoy them." said Ms. Aurélie Pigeau, the press official of Consulate General of France in Guangzhou.

The Banana Kid directed by the Chinese French Cheng Xiaoxing was the first one shown at the French-speaking Documentaries Festival. Heroes in the film are the second generation of the Chinese immigrants in France. They were born in France and speak French as their mother tongue. But they said they do not really belong to this country.

The director explained that the film was recorded during a Chinese study tour for a group of France-born Chinese youth. The film tries to reveal the embarrassing identity for the youth. They are like bananas with yellow skin but a western-culture-affected soul. They inherit Chinese traditions like modesty and filial ways. They are also starving for making achievement in the western society.

The films include 8 Canadian, 7 French, 4 Swiss, and 1 Belgian movies. The topics are miscellaneous such as art, life, environment, trade, animal and sports.
