The flag-fall fare for urban and New Territories taxis will rise $1 from February 28.

The Chief Executive-in-Council has endorsed a $1 rise in the flag-fall fare for urban and New Territories taxis. The legislative revision will be tabled at the Legislative Council on January 30 and the new fares will take effect on February 28.

The Transport & Housing Bureau said today the revision has been made due to rising fuel and operating costs.

The Transport Advisory Committee is reviewing taxi operations with a view to boosting the trade's competitiveness. The review consultation will conclude on January 31.

The bureau expects the review will bolster the competitiveness of the taxi fare structure at various travelling distances and the $1 flag-fall rise will be subsumed within the review.
