According to a research on citizens personal life impression done by Guangzhou Public-Opinion Research Center (the PORC), only 37% are satisfied with their current work. The satisfaction figures on “medication and hospital services” and “housing conditions” have been declining.

Over 70% respondents are pleased current incomes

Research shows the figures on personal life impression are more positive than economic data.

On 6 out of the 7 aspects of life impression, over 75% of respondents were positive. Among them, “social relations” was on top, with 54.7% respondents saying “fairly satisfied”; then followed by “personal leisure life” with 42.2% positive answers; “work” came third on the list, while only 37% of people are happy with their current jobs and work conditions.

On the other hand, most respondents were not so happy with their economic conditions but over 60% said current conditions were still acceptable. In the research, 82.2% respondents felt satisfied with their “personal economic status”; 75.1% said the opportunities to make money were fairly abundant in Guangzhou; and referring to “personal income”, 74% citizens said it was still acceptable.

However, the satisfaction on “personal security” is obviously improving, with 28.3% positive comments which are 6.2% higher than the figure in 2005.

“Medication and hospital services” is at the bottom with least satisfactions

The percentage of respondents that are satisfied with current “medication and hospital services” is down to 17.8% from the 28.4% in 2003, while the dissatisfaction proportion rises up to 44.2%.

Although the overall satisfaction on “medication and hospital services” worsens, the figure from the jobless and low income groups has improved. The dissatisfaction proportion of the jobless lowers down to 51% and the figure from the low income group (average monthly income is less than 800 yuan) declines to 45.6%. It shows the preferential policies to improve the medication conditions of vulnerable groups are taking effect.
