CIEF Brings Prosperity to Department Stores

The 102nd China Import and Export Fair (CIEF) boasted the largest number of purchasers, which brought prosperity to Guangzhou's departments stores, for lots of purchasers seized the time after the fair to do shopping.

At last weekend, total sales achieved by Guangzhou's three major department stores including Grandbuy, Friendship Store and Teemall amounted to RMB60 million or so, up by 30% compared with usual weekends.

What are the purchasers' favorites include local specialties, Hi-Tech digital products, cosmetics of famous brands, brand watches and jewels. Besides, costumes of international brands won increasing popularity, with sales increasing by 20% to 30%.

Manager Zhu of Teemall said that overseas purchasers showed great interest in goods of Chinese characteristics like tea and the cheongsam. In addition, costumes of domestic brands became foreign purchasers' favorites due to their improved quality and designs as well as favorable prices. He said that sales of costumes in Teemall increased by 28% compared with the same period of last year.

Phase 1 of 102nd CIEF Generates Turnover of USD24.97 Billion

Phase 1 of the 102nd Import and Export Fair (CIEF) concluded on October 20th with the turnover totaling USD24.97 billion, up by 4.1% and 12.5% compared with phase 1 of 101st and 100th CIEF respectively.

The number of overseas purchasers declined a little. However, Phase 1 of the 102nd CIEF attracted an increasing number of European purchasers - up by 9% compared with the last cession. Till October 20th, totally 123,118 overseas purchasers from 212 countries and regions attended the Phase 1 of 102nd CIEF, including 25,630 European purchasers who showed great interest in Hi-Tech products.

Xu Bing, Vice Secretary-general and spokesman of the CIEF, said that the turnover was mainly attributed to purchasers from Europe, America and Asia. European Union boasted the largest turnover – USD8.02 billion, followed by the USA (USD3.7 billion) and the Middle East (USD3.36 billion).

Phase 2 of the 102nd CIEF will be held between October 25th and 30th at Liuhua Complex and Pazhu Complex simultaneously.
