Five public plazas are to be launched in Guangzhou's Zhujiang New Town. The plazas are designed to bunch into a "diamond necklace" in the future CBD of the city, according to Yangcheng Evening News.

The landmark plazas have an area of 730,000 square kilometers with an investment of RMB 760 million yuan.

The five plazas link together in series from north to south. The plazas consist of the Citizen's Plaza, View Garden, Double Towers Plaza, Plaza of Culture and Art, and the Haixinsha City Plaza which is located in southern most point of the area. The former four plazas are to be accomplished before 2010.

Such kinds of consecutive plazas are seldom found in the world.

The Haixinsha Plaza is to sit on Haixinsha Island on the Pearl River, with a view of CBD in the north, Guangzhou new TV tower in the south and Ersha Island in the west. It has an area of 170,000 square meters, with a length of 800 meters and a width of 200 meters. The Haixinsha Plaza is to be the largest public plaza in Guangzhou. The plaza will feature a garden on its grounds and business and transport junctions underground upon the accomplishment in late 2009.

The whole central plazas bear the imprint of traditional characteristics with a shape of Aquarius, which symbolizes Guangzhou's Ping'an (Peace), Jixiang (Good Luck) and Fuqiang (Prosperity).
